Holiday activities are taking shape at East Tennessee State University, with the campus synthetic ice rink scheduled to return on November 17.

The rink will reopen at University Commons as part of the university's annual holiday-season programming.

The opening coincides with ETSU's Holiday Lights Celebration, which brings students and visitors together for an evening of seasonal activities.

University announcements also describe music, refreshments and holiday movie screenings as parts of the celebration.

Because the skating surface is synthetic, the activity offers a winter-themed experience without relying on a conventional frozen outdoor rink.

For Johnson City residents, the return is another sign that the calendar is moving from autumn festivals toward holiday outings.

The event is especially relevant for students, faculty, staff and families planning activities around the campus.

Skating eligibility, admission requirements and operating hours can vary by session.

Prospective visitors should check ETSU's current schedule before making plans, including whether a particular skating time is limited to campus ID holders.

Additional skating opportunities are expected after the opening celebration.

The seasonal rink adds a distinctive option to the Tri-Cities events calendar as November approaches.
