Downtown Greeneville will welcome families for Halloween Happenings on Friday, October 30, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The free event, coordinated by Main Street: Greeneville, invites children younger than 13 who are accompanied by a parent or guardian to collect candy from participating downtown businesses, churches and organizations.

Organizers also describe seasonal activities that may include hayrides, sidewalk or street chalk art, music and spooky storytelling.

Traffic and parking changes

To create space for the celebration, organizers have announced temporary closures along Main Street, Depot Street and Summer Street in the event area.

The town's detailed traffic notice also lists closures affecting Irish Street and College Street, with restrictions generally planned from 3:30 to 6:15 p.m.

On-street parking is restricted within the downtown event area after 3 p.m.

Motorists should follow posted signs and directions from local authorities; exact closure boundaries may change as organizers manage traffic.

How families can participate

Most Halloween Happenings activities are free and open to the public.

Families should arrive with enough time to park outside the closed streets and walk to participating businesses.

Because children and pedestrians will be moving around the downtown route, drivers should use extra caution on nearby streets.
