TRI-CITIES, Tenn./Va. — Communities across the Appalachian Highlands are preparing for one of the biggest holiday weekends of the summer, with parades, concerts, fireworks and family-friendly celebrations marking Independence Day and America's 250th anniversary.
In Johnson City, the 40th Pepsi Independence Day Celebration returns to Freedom Hall on Saturday, July 4. Festivities begin during the afternoon with food trucks, children's activities, Touch-A-Truck, vendor booths and live entertainment before concluding with one of the region's largest fireworks shows just after 10 p.m.
Bristol will celebrate with its Star-Spangled July 4 Parade beginning at 5 p.m. along State Street. The celebration continues at Anderson Park with live music, food vendors, children's activities and a fireworks display to close the evening.
In Kingsport, residents are already preparing for Fun Fest, which begins later in July. The recently opened Fun Fest Store is helping visitors register for popular events, purchase merchandise and plan ahead for one of Northeast Tennessee's signature summer traditions.
History enthusiasts can also experience America's founding story at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park, where the outdoor drama "Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals" brings the story of the Overmountain Men to life at Fort Watauga Amphitheater. The production offers a unique way to celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary while exploring one of the most important Revolutionary War sites in the region.
Whether you're looking for fireworks, live music, family activities or a deeper connection to local history, the Tri-Cities offers plenty of ways to celebrate close to home during the Independence Day holiday. |
