Virginia State Police Plan Two-Day I-81 Safety Enforcement Push |
Operation DISS-rupt targets distracted and impaired driving, speeding and seat-belt safety October 21–22 |

Drivers traveling Interstate 81 in Southwest Virginia should be aware of a scheduled statewide highway safety operation.
Virginia State Police say Operation DISS-rupt will take place October 21 and 22 along the 325-mile Virginia stretch of I-81.
The enforcement effort will focus on distracted driving, impaired driving, speed compliance and seat-belt safety, according to WJHL's report of the announcement.
The operation is designed to encourage safe decisions on a heavily traveled corridor used by commuters, visitors and commercial trucks.
For Tri-Cities readers, the notice is especially relevant to trips through Bristol and Washington County and farther north along I-81.
Drivers can prepare by allowing extra travel time, avoiding phone use, wearing seat belts and following posted speed limits.
Motorists should also leave adequate distance between vehicles and adjust driving to traffic and weather conditions.
The program concerns law enforcement activity, not a reported full closure of the interstate.
The scheduled dates are October 21 and 22, so readers should treat this as a current-week notice. |
